The pilot project for the separate collection of biowaste from Timișoara's markets, presented by Digi24
The pilot project for the separate collection of biowaste from markets in Timișoara was featured by Digi24 in a report detailing the path that organic matter takes after separate collection and how it can be recycled through biogas production.
Biowaste collected separately from participating markets is transported to the Genesis Biopartner biogas plant in Pișchia, where it undergoes anaerobic digestion. This process yields biogas, which is used to generate electricity and heat, as well as digestate, which is utilized in agriculture as an organic fertilizer. In this way, organic matter is kept in a recycling loop rather than being disposed of along with residual waste.
In the report, Leonard Gonciulea, Director of the Pișchia Facility, explained how separately collected biowaste is received and fed into the plant’s technological process, as well as the role of the biogas plant in utilizing this type of resource.
A Project That Starts with Proper Separation
The pilot project aims to create a functional cycle for the biowaste generated in Timișoara’s markets: from proper separation at the source, to separate collection and transport, and subsequently to its processing at a specialized facility.
Separating biowaste from other waste categories is essential for the efficient recovery of organic matter. Through digestion
