Antena 1 Observer featured the pilot project in Timișoara and the Genesis Biopartner facility in Pișchia
The pilot project for the separate collection of biowaste from markets in Timișoara and the process by which it is recycled at the Genesis Biopartner biogas plant in Pișchia were featured on Observator Antena 1. The report traces the journey of separately collected biowaste from Timișoara’s markets, from pickup to processing at the biogas plant in Pișchia, and explains how organic matter can be transformed into a resource for producing renewable energy.
As part of the pilot project, fruits, vegetables, flowers, and other organic waste are collected separately and transported to the Genesis Biopartner plant. There, they are received, prepared, and fed into the anaerobic digestion process. Anaerobic digestion produces biogas, which is then used in cogeneration units to generate electricity and heat. The process also generates digestate, which can be used in agriculture as an organic fertilizer.
From a Stream of Biowaste to a Local Resource
Through separate collection, organic matter follows a different pathway than residual waste and can be introduced into a controlled recovery process. This is also one of the objectives of the pilot project underway in Timișoara: to test a functional system that connects source separation, collection, transportation, and biogas-based recovery infrastructure.
The Observator report also highlights the capacity of the Genesis Biopartner's plant.
