Circular economy: Genesis Biopartner obtains green energy and organic fertilizers from waste
In the context of the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis triggered by Russia, the European Commission has set itself the goal of making the EU independent of fossil fuels by 2030 through the "REPowerEU" plan. To achieve this goal, the target for biogas production has also been increased to 35 billion cubic meters per year by 2030. In Romania there is currently a company that has made significant investments in biogas production and plans to expand nationally.• Matei Dumitru
Genesis Biopartner is a holding company established in Filipeștii de Pădure (Prahova county) with the aim of creating a portfolio of biogas cogeneration renewable energy plants throughout Romania, using biodegradable organic waste as raw material and thus contributing to environmental protection.
The company is the market leader in the operation of biogas plants in our country and processes contaminated or uncontaminated waste from retail, canteens and the food industry, animal waste, slaughterhouse by-products, vegetables, fruit and bakery products, fats, oils and various types of liquid impurities. As a result, Genesis Biopartner recycles around 60,000 tonnes of food waste annually, generating green electricity for almost 6,000 households.
More than 6.5 million cubic meters of biogas are produced annually through the facilities in Filipeștii de Pădure, which are converted into electricity and heat using state-of-the-art cogeneration technologies. Digestate is the result of the fermentation process, a nutrient-rich organic fertilizer that is very valuable for agricultural crops. The investment in the biogas plant amounted to more than €10 million and the project was initiated, developed and fully financed by Genesis Biopartner. Horia Matei Bărdeanu, the managing director of Genesis Biopartner, believed from the beginning in the success of such an investment in Romania.
"There are many who ask us who or what Genesis Biopartner is and I think we owe them an answer. Genesis Biopartner is a revolutionary concept in Romania, because it is not a business idea that has profit as its immediate goal, but rather protecting the environment and ensuring a greener future for our descendants.
